EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

GENERAL DUTIES:
Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation, inspection, maintenance, repair and construction of sanitary sewers, including CCTV inspection and high velocity flushing; may operate, maintain and make minor repairs to any equipment in the division, such as trucks, rodders and high velocity water jets; may act as a helper to skilled tradesman or do simple trade work; and may serve as trainee;

performs snow removal and rights-of-way inspection and clearing as necessary. performs all work in a safe, efficient manner. performs other related duties as required within the scope of Sewer Division work.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
May be subject to emergency calls or scheduled overtime work as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

:

Considerable physical strength and stamina; ability and aptitude to follow complex written and oral instruction; some knowledge of processes and materials used in construction, and operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer systems; some knowledge of mechanical principles; and the ability to use and make minor repairs of equipment in assigned operations; good ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other municipal employees, the general public, and vendors and contractors;

good ability to perform assignments in a thorough and dependable manner; good ability to learn and apply new skills and to adapt to new methodologies and technology, including computer skills applicable to CCTV inspection of sanitary sewer mains; ability to perform all of the physical requirements of the position, including working outside in inclement weather.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school, trade school or vocational school diploma or high school equivalency diploma, plus one (1) year employment as a laborer in the construction field with work experience in the installation and maintenance of pipelines (sanitary sewer, water main, storm drain or gas main) or for a sewer, water, or natural gas utility; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is a trainee position to fully qualify an individual as Collections Maintainer I with the Wallingford Sewer Division. Collections Maintainer I (Trainees) are limited to 24 months in the position to obtain both a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B from the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles and a Collections System Certification (Grade I, II or III) from the New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) within twenty-four (24) months.

Appointment to this position is provisional. If the employee is unable to obtain either the CDL Class B and the NEWEA certification at twenty-four (24) months, an employee in this classification shall be terminated, and the termination shall not be grievable or arbitrable.
