Field Operations Manager - Northeast Region

Location: Wallingford, CT
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Field Operations Manager to lead construction field operations across the Northeast Region. This leader will oversee hiring, resource planning, onboarding, development, and performance management for Field Operations personnel, including Section Managers and select Site Managers. The role ensures operational excellence, supports strategic project execution, and upholds the highest safety standards across all active construction sites.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Management
  • Directly oversee Field Operations Section Managers and designated Site Managers within the Northeast Region.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, mentoring, training, performance management, and long-term development of Field Operations personnel.
  • Assign resources to EPC and Program Management projects in coordination with Project Managers, Department Managers, and corporate construction leadership.
  • Serve as Site Manager on strategic or critical projects as needed and support emerging project needs throughout the region.
  • Promote department capabilities and support business development efforts, including participation in client-facing meetings and presentations.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure department-wide adherence to all corporate safety programs, training, and policies.
  • Partner with project teams to manage overall Safety & Health performance across project personnel and contractors.
  • Support the implementation of new safety initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
  • Obtain LOTO certification and support certification of qualified Field Operations staff.
Operational Excellence
  • Interpret, develop, and implement policies and procedures in collaboration with safety and quality teams.
  • Lead interviews for Superintendents, Site Managers, and Section Managers.
  • Develop department tools, workflows, and best practices to improve project execution efficiency.
  • Assign work, review team performance, and ensure quality, cost-effective utilization of field resources.
  • Demonstrate strong problem‑solving abilities with creativity, foresight, and sound judgment.
Recruiting & Talent Development
  • Coordinate with internal recruitment teams and department leadership to recruit, hire, and retain Field Operations staff.
  • Oversee development plans, training programs, goal‑setting, performance appraisals, and long‑term retention strategies.
  • Provide ongoing leadership, guidance, and instruction to promote continuous growth and operational excellence.
Qualifications Required
  • 11+ years of related field construction experience;
    OR
  • 7+ years of related experience plus a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field (experience may substitute for degree).
  • Strong leadership background in field operations, construction management, or site management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information effectively to all stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead, influence, and manage change in a thoughtful and positive manner.
  • Proficiency with standard software tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to travel as required.
Preferred
  • 15+ years of construction management experience, particularly overseeing industrial construction projects.
  • Prior experience as a Site Manager, Construction Manager, Section Manager, or similar leadership role.
