OpportunityThe Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) is looking for a Juvenile Rehabilitation Counselor (JRC1) to work at Oakridge Community Facility, a minimum‑security residential program. The role includes case management, supervision, counseling, and reentry planning for adjudicated youth.
Responsibilities- Assist JRC2s in providing supervision and services to youth and families in the facility and community.
- Provide cognitive‑behavioral treatment to youth with complex disorders and service needs.
- Assess behavior, prioritize treatment targets, develop treatment plans, and implement interventions in collaboration with the DBT consultant or supervisor.
- Assist in group facilitation and supervise recreational activities.
- Perform routine security duties (wellness checks, building checks, room searches, searches of youth, absconder searches).
- Supervise and maintain order in the facility and community, ensuring treatment plans and program expectations are met.
- Assist youth with job searches, school, vocational work, and community service.
- Develop and implement treatment and reentry plans and provide individual counseling.
- Supervise meal service to resident groups.
- Supervise and assign chores to meet health and hygiene standards.
- Monitor resident movement to and from school, medical, work, and recreational activities.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience totaling four years.
- Or a Bachelor’s degree.
- Or two years of college education and two years of professional experience as a Juvenile Rehabilitation Security Officer 1 (JRSO1) or Juvenile Rehabilitation Officer 1 (JRO1).
- Or two years of college education and two years of experience working with at‑risk or justice‑system involved youth as a case manager, counselor, probation or parole officer, or in a social‑services capacity.
- The ability to take action to learn and grow.
- The ability to meet the needs of others.
- Experience providing direct care to youth in community environments.
- Experience monitoring youth in non‑secure residential settings.
- Understanding of adolescent development and juvenile rehabilitation practices, and experience with cognitive/behavioral interventions.
- Competency in relating to clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of group dynamics and societal trends related to juvenile delinquency.
- Ability to use de‑escalation techniques approved for JR.
