Program: Wildlife Program – Science Division
Duty Station: Pomeroy, Washington – Columbia County
- Collect field data: biological and vegetation samples, conduct surveys, process biomass, investigate elk mortalities.
- Record data: QA/QC, transcribe records into databases, organize and upload field photos.
Fieldwork includes hiking up to 10 miles over uneven terrain, carrying up to 50 lbs. of equipment, and working in variable weather. Remote site travel may involve driving on partially flooded or snow-covered roads. Work may include wildlife mortality investigations and periodic office computer work. Shift timing is flexible; 40 hours per week in a full-time schedule.
QualificationsRequired qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED with one year of high‑school science and two years experience as a Scientific Technician 1, or
- High school diploma or GED with one year of high‑school science and two years laboratory or field experience as a biologist, chemist, or zoologist assistant.
- College coursework in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry or related natural sciences may substitute for experience, with at least six semester or nine quarter hours of natural science.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred qualifications:
- One year or more professional experience in identifying common plant species in eastern Washington.
- One year or more in nutritional ecology of ungulates.
- Experience in wildlife mortality investigations and necropsies.
- Experience using ATVs, snowmobiles, and hauling trailers.
