WDFW Program: Wildlife Program
Duty Station: Montesano, Washington – Grays Harbor County
Remote Employment: Up to 1–2 days per week, supervisor discretion

Region Served: Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, Thurston

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise regional Wildlife Program staff to achieve Agency Strategic Goals, Program directives, and Division objectives.
  • Manage the Region 6 Wildlife Program budget.
  • Participate in Agency Senior Management Team, Wildlife Program Leadership Team, and Regional Senior Staff meetings.
  • Develop policies in species plans and recreational hunting programs of regional and statewide significance.
  • Negotiate with the public, Indian Tribes, organized constituents, and state, county, city, and federal agencies Vaz regarding wildlife management policies, recreation access, hunting recreation, and wildlife protection.
  • Maintain the Department‑owned land base in Region 6.
  • Direct biological survey efforts to protect threatened and endangered species and assess game species status.
  • Act as the Wildlife Program contact for Tribes, legislators, and elected officials in Region 6.
  • Develop hunting season recommendations for the region for statewide participation.
Working Conditions

Primarily office‑based with some field work, including exposure to variable weather, uneven terrain, and wildlife or livestock interactions. Full‑time, overtime‑exempt; schedule typically Monday–Friday, 40 hours, with occasional additional hours as needed. Frequent travel within Region 6, occasional travel to other regions; vehicle provided.

Qualifications effector Required

Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Science, or a related field.

  • Five (5) Years of Professional

    Experience:

    Advanced wildlife management principles, habitat and land management methods, regulatory frameworks, and private landowner relations.
  • Three (3) Years of Professional

    Experience:

    Supervising or managing senior staff, building team dynamics, managing activities across multiple divisions, communicating technical information, and maintaining stakeholder relationships.

    One (1) Year of Professional

    Experience:
  • Managing budgets, grants, or contracts and allocating resources across projects.
Certifications / Licenses

Valid driver’s license. Additional background checks required for law‑enforcement dispatch access and explosives storage magazine license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Science, or related field.
  • Professional experience working with tribal governments, local communities, or nonprofits on wildlife management objectives.
