DSHS DVR Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor
The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) seeks a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor 1-3 in Training. In this role you will provide vocational rehabilitation counseling and case‑management to help students, youth, and adults with disabilities secure and maintain good‑paying employment. You will work closely with customers, other agencies, and service providers to complete assessments, develop Individualized Plans for Employment (IPE), and monitor progress toward employment goals.
Responsibilities- Serve a caseload of 50–110 DVR customers.
- Determine each customer’s eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services.
- Provide counseling, support, and assist customers in developing and implementing IPEs.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, identify disability‑related barriers, and interpret diagnostic testing and other assessment tools.
- Maintain relationships with partner providers and promote DVR programs to the public and employers.
- Lead group orientations, workshops, and related activities to facilitate informed choices and prep customers for employment.
- Current certification as a Rehabilitation Counselor (CRCC) OR a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
- Alternatively, a master’s degree with at least 18 quarter or 12 semester credit hours of rehabilitation counseling courses plus 6 months of vocational counseling, job placement, or related experience.
- Optionally, a bachelor’s degree in a related field with acceptance into or enrollment in a master’s program to be completed within two years plus one year of relevant experience.

- Technical knowledge of disabling conditions, labor market data, assistive technology, and job modifications.
- Ability to facilitate informed choice and collaborative decision‑making.
- Support customers in accessing diverse social, educational, and financial resources.
- Manage multiple priorities within prescribed time limits.
- Negotiate with vendors and collaborate with other rehabilitation professionals.
