Position: DSHS DVR Rehabilitation Technician 1

Rehabilitation Technician 1

Are you someone who enjoys helping people get oriented, feel welcome, and take their next step with confidence? The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) is hiring a Rehabilitation Technician 1 to support people with disabilities as they work toward meaningful employment. This position often serves as the first connection people have with DVR, setting the tone for their experience.

Shift

Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Responsibilities
  • Welcome visitors and support front desk operations by answering phones, managing lobby sign‑ins, handling mail and referrals, and keeping the reception area running smoothly.
  • Explain DVR services and eligibility requirements in clear, straightforward language and enter new applications into the case management system within required time frames.
  • Support Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors by gathering documentation, requesting vendor quotes, staying in touch with participants, and noting progress or barriers that may affect employment goals.
  • Schedule interpreters, service providers, and meetings; collect diagnostic information; and flag delays that could impact eligibility timelines.
  • Review and monitor authorizations, prepare or process payments, and complete required case reviews before closure.
  • Keep electronic and paper records accurate, organized, and in line with agency policies and records‑retention requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of community resources, using familiarity with local supports and service providers to connect people to appropriate resources that support employment and vocational rehabilitation goals.
  • Understanding of disability‑related needs, communicating respectfully and effectively with individuals who may experience physical, cognitive, mental health, or communication barriers, while supporting an inclusive and welcoming office environment.
  • Clear communication and relationship‑building skills:
    Working collaboratively with vocational rehabilitation counselors, service providers, and vendors, while maintaining consistent and professional communication with the people you support.
  • Technical and systems skills:
    Learning and using case management and office systems to enter applications, track documentation, monitor authorizations, and maintain accurate case records.
  • Interviewing and explanation skills:
    Gathering information, asking clarifying questions, and explaining DVR services, eligibility requirements, and next steps in a way that is understandable and reassuring.
  • Professional judgment and problem‑solving:
    Navigating questions, delays, or challenging situations with patience and consistency, and knowing when to elevate issues that may affect timelines or service delivery.
Qualifications

Individuals with two years of college‑level coursework AND at least one year of experience providing direct customer service in a non‑retail setting. OR a combination of education and relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work may substitute for the required qualifications.
