DSHS YVS Attendant Counselor 3 – State of Washington
Overview
Position:
Attendant Counselor 3 at Yakima Valley School, a state‑run nursing facility for individuals with developmental disabilities. The role involves direct care in a residential setting, supporting community living and therapeutic activities. Shift is night;
Friday and Saturday off. A shift differential and up to 5% premium pay are available for on‑site work three days a week.
- Serve as shift charge (or lead), evaluating daily and emergent needs of the unit and assigning staff appropriately.
- Provide direct care and active engagement to maximize independent living skills—personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, meal prep, leisure, community awareness and routine household responsibilities.
- Participate in activities of daily living, physical, social and habilitative skill development, ensuring choices for self‑determination.
- Transport residents to recreational activities and health appointments.
- Aid in implementing Health Services Orders, supporting scheduled learning and independent functioning.
- Assist with personal care for both genders.
- Provide safe and protective interventions when challenging behaviors arise.
- Observe, document, and report physical, medical, and behavioral changes; assist with medical and behavioral emergencies.
- Two years of related experience working with persons with intellectual disabilities or mental illness and a high school diploma or GED.
- OR two years as an Attendant Counselor 1, equivalent or higher state class, and a high school diploma or GED.
- Valid NAC license required.
