Job SummaryThe Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator 2 is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the well system and water distribution system on McNeil Island while also providing support in the wastewater treatment area. This role ensures that all water and wastewater operations meet federal and state regulatory requirements, including compliance with RCW, WAC, Department of Health and Department of Ecology standards, as well as applicable Department of Corrections policies.
Accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship are essential.
- Monitor well system, water tank and distribution network and wastewater treatment plant in accordance with regulations and policies of Department of Health, Department of Ecology, EPA and Department of Corrections.
- Maintain adequate quantity and quality of potable water for staff, residents and fire protection; operate plant per DOE, DOH, EPA and DOA policies.
- Instruct, train and supervise incarcerated workers in maintenance of water equipment and plant operations.
- Perform chemical testing in accordance with Department of Health requirements, analyze results and adjust operations accordingly.
- Inspect well house, water distribution systems, perform or recommend necessary maintenance, and ensure equipment operates effectively.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Required: Valid Washington State Certificate of Competency issued by the Department of Health as a Water Treatment Plant Operator 1 or higher.
- Valid Washington State Certificate of Competency issued by the Department of Health as a Water Distribution Manager 1 or higher.
- Certification by Department of Ecology as a Group 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
- Valid Washington driver’s license.
- Ability to perform chemical tests, analyze results, and make appropriate adjustments to the water treatment system.
- Computer skills with experience in Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated organization, time management, strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.
- High ethical conduct and ability to apply negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Effective communication with management, peers, offenders and the public.
