About the position

CDHY/WSD is seeking one or more Student Life Counselor – Transportation Monitor positions. The transportation monitor supervises students during transportation and maintains a safe environment. Monitors move along bus aisles or supervise students during travel to ensure safety and behavioral management. Positions travel via charter bus with students and may include driving a state car and airline travel. Expected hours are 12 to 24 per week, with a schedule that flexes based on stops, weather, traffic, and route.

Travel days are typically Friday and Sunday during the school year; start/end times depend on the route.

Compensation
:
These positions are eligible for a shift premium of $2.50 per hour for hours after 6:00 pm and before 6:00 am where no overtime pay applies. Graveyard shifts receive full shift premium. The Student Life Counselor position also includes a 5% assignment pay in addition to base salary and shift premium pay.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise students during transportation.
  • Communicate with students, supervisors, parents, and school staff using American Sign Language (ASL) and written English.
  • Ensure a healthy, safe and secure environment.
  • Maintain required communication logs and documentation of student behavior.
  • May work as back‑fill Student Life Counselor in residential settings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Residential Services.
Qualifications

Required qualifications
:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience working with children in an educational environment.
  • Ability to obtain a food worker card and CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Ability to work as a team member and maintain positive relations with staff, students, parents, and the public.
  • Ability to assist all students in areas of independent living and assist in the implementation of the Independent Living Skills (ILS) curriculum under supervision.
  • Working knowledge of de‑escalation techniques.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to supervise children during transportation, including sitting for long periods, walking, and standing. Willingness to work indoors and outdoors.
  • Must provide at least three work‑related professional references.
  • Must be able to pass state and federal background checks.
