Salary Range: $4,735- $6,356 Monthly
This position is represented by the Teamsters 117 bargaining unit.
The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a motivated and critical thinking team player to join the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) team as a Fiscal Analyst 1. The goal of this position is to ensure the accurate and timely management of agency resources by performing general fund accounting and reconciling general ledgers accurately and timely. The candidate must be comfortable working in a prison environment and be able to adapt quickly to changing daily tasks and deadlines.
As an FA1, duties include local fund and general accounting activities such as daily deposits, journal vouchers, general ledger and purchase card reconciliations, and preparing incarcerated individual gratuities on a schedule established locally. This role requires active communication ensuring timely information sharing with customers and a high level of customer service and professionalism, including collaboration with custody staff to address potential security issues.

What we need (required qualifications)- High School Diploma or GED
- Accounting 201 and Accounting 202 from an accredited college or university recognized by the US Department of Education and CHEA, or foreign equivalent
- One (1) year of relevant experience
- Relevant experience is defined as Fiscal Technician 2 or above level work
Note:
If incumbent has credits in one of the required accounting courses and is enrolled in the second course at the time of the interview, they will have six months from date of hire to complete the second course. If not completed within six months, it will be deemed a failure to successfully complete the review period.
- Equivalencies to be reviewed by Comptroller/designee; degrees outside focused areas will not count towards experience requirements
- A business-focused Bachelor’s degree with minimum 20 accounting credits (including Accounting 201, 202, 203) and Governmental Accounting from an accredited college or university
- Business-focused Bachelor’s degree with required accounting credits and governmental accounting experience

This position may be allocated for telework. Work may be performed from home or another offsite location within Washington state using internet or cellular connectivity. Onsite onboarding and occasional facility/field office travel may be required.
