Perform routine transportation work driving the Council on Aging vans in support of senior services programs administered by the Council on Aging, The Senior Center is located at 30 Converse Street, Wakefield.
- Required to drive 15-passenger van and automobile used for transp0rting seniors to medical and personal service appointments, shopping and senior center activities as needed
- Coordinate with staff regarding transportation of clients
- Alerts staff of significant changes or any problems with clients
- Compiles and maintains mileage log as required by the council
- Keeps COA staff aware of any vehicle problems
- May be asked to perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones, running of errands, pick-up and delivery of supplies/packages as needed
- 8-passenger van regularly, automobile and up to a 15-passenger van seasonally
- Cell phone
- 3+ hours per shift
- Occasional opportunities for additional shifts as needed
The majority of work is performed inside, outside and in between the Town vehicle, homes and businesses. Noise and physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Brief periods of exposure to the elements in inclement weather.
Physical DemandsThe work involves sitting, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking and standing, particularly when helping customers. May be required to lift objects such as packages and other personal belongings weighing up to 30 pounds. Frequently required to physically assist seniors.
Special RequirementsValid driver's license and passing of a driving record check, Satisfactory completion of CORI check, physical exam and drug screening, Knowledge of first aid desirable, Ability to physically assist passengers in and out of van as necessary, and Flexible availability.
