We are excited to offer a permanent Electrician position at HMP Wakefield, 5 Love Lane, Wakefield WF2 9AG
.

The standard hours are 39 hours per week:
Monday‑Thursday 07:30‑16:30;
Friday 07:30‑16:00;
Saturday‑Sunday 07:45‑15:45. Weekend work occurs on a rota basis (once every four weekends) with a 15% allowance of basic salary.

What you will do:
  • Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including administrative duties aligned to the tasks.
  • Actively fault‑finding/problem‑solving on electrical systems across the prison.
  • Carry out like‑for‑like replacements and other minor electrical works with the relevant inspections and tests carried out and results recorded in accordance with BS7671.
  • Ensure all electrical systems are safe, compliant and functioning effectively, creating a secure and well‑maintained environment for staff and prisoners.
  • Assist the Responsible Person and Authorised Person when requested.
  • Ensure Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented across all appropriate work streams.
  • Assist with escorting duties and other duties as required.
What you will bring:
  • City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation qualification or equivalent.
  • BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition acceptable with upskilling to 18th Edition).
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
  • Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
  • Experience working under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work at heights, independently and use initiative.
  • Understanding of fire‑alarm and CCTV systems (desirable).
  • Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Basic IT skills.
