SALARY: £25,948 per annum pro rata
LOCATION: Wakefield, West Yorkshire, Yorkshire and the Humber
JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: 22.5 hours per week on varying days, including weekends. Sociable working hours – usual café operation is 10am – 5pm (4pm during winter) with occasional evenings and late nights.
JOB OVERVIEWWe have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Prep Chef to support a growing café operation within a popular visitor destination. This role plays a vital part in delivering consistently high standards of food preparation and kitchen organisation.
As a Prep Chef you will work closely with senior kitchen staff to prepare fresh ingredients for daily service and events, ensuring quality, consistency, and efficiency at all times.
The Prep Chef role offers sociable working hours, variety through occasional evening events, and the chance to be part of a collaborative kitchen team focused on great food and guest experience.

- Food Preparation: Preparing high-quality ingredients for daily café service and events
- Kitchen Support: Assisting the Head Chef and Sous Chef with smooth day-to-day operations
- Stock Handling: Receiving and storing deliveries correctly and safely
- Food Standards: Ensuring food is prepared to required quality and presentation standards
- Health and Safety: Maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment
- Cleaning Duties: Completing regular cleaning tasks in line with food safety standard
- Event Support: Assisting with preparation for occasional evening and private events
- Teamwork: Working collaboratively to support efficient and positive service
- Compliance: Following food hygiene, allergen, and safety procedures at all times
- Previous experience in a kitchen, catering, or food preparation environment
- A good understanding of food hygiene, allergen awareness, and health and safety practices
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen setting while maintaining quality standards
- Confident preparing ingredients and supporting service for a busy café operation
- Reliable, positive, and team-focused approach, with a willingness to support colleagues
- Good organisation skills, including managing prep lists and prioritising tasks
- Flexibility to work varying days, including weekends and occasional evenings/late nights
- Pride in keeping work areas clean, safe, and compliant with food safety procedures
