The Role

We are looking to recruit a Band 5 Physiotherapist to join our committed and supportive Children’s Therapy Team at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. This is a temporary position, to cover maternity leave within our team. It makes it a great opportunity for an enthusiastic band 5, who would like to gain experience in paediatric physiotherapy. There is no extensive experience required for this position, but we will welcome a motivated and passionate therapist who would like to explore the prospect of pursuing a career working with children.

The post will include work within Special schools, mainstream schools and community, working with children 0-19 with neuro-disability, including children with PMLD (profound and multiple learning disabilities).

Regular staff meetings, safeguarding, clinical supervision and staff development are an integral part of the service.

For any internal candidates, secondment will be considered.

Main Duties
  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own practice, including the management of individuals in your care.
  • To understand and apply the Physiotherapy process in the effective self‑management of a caseload within the Children’s Therapy Service, assessing and mitigating risk, addressing functional skill deficit and gross motor development difficulties in order to enable service users in components of participation, activity and physical performance in everyday life.
  • To work within the scope of MY Children’s Therapy service when prioritising need, assessing and delivering interventions.
  • To work within agreed MY Children’s Therapy service delivery model and pathways.
  • To know the professional and personal scope of own practice and make referrals to other agencies.
  • To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the key concepts of biological, physical, social, psychological and clinical sciences in relation to child development relevant to Children’s Therapy Service.
  • To utilise a range of standardised and non‑standardised Physiotherapy assessments and techniques using investigative and analytical skills and reflective practice.
  • To be responsible for the assessment, prescription and evaluation of specialist equipment for children with multiple and complex needs.
  • To demonstrate a knowledge of Children’s Therapy conditions and current Physiotherapy approaches to treatment.
  • To be able to use research, clinical reasoning and problem‑solving skills including activity analysis to identify the therapeutic benefit of client‑centred interventions and make professional judgements with individuals with diverse or complex needs, or multiple problems according to outcome, changes in patient needs and environmental influences.
Essential Person Specification
  • Graduate Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Registered with the HCPC.
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, including attendance at recent and relevant postgraduate courses.
  • Portfolio evidence of information learning.
  • Experience working with children or transferable Physiotherapy skills to work within Children’s Therapy.
  • Experience of a diverse range of clinical settings and previous experience working within healthcare.
  • Evidence of autonomous working.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with the MDT, patients, families and other professionals or services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of local safeguarding process.
