MYDoc CST Equivalent (Rotational Programme)

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust invites applications for these high quality and exciting posts, which have been designed primarily for trainees who have successfully completed their FY2 placements and wish to complete a CST equivalent training within Surgery. These posts are an ideal steppingstone for trainees between their FY2 and Specialty training posts and offer opportunities for applicants to develop skills and experience in other areas such as medical education and quality/service improvement.

Our posts combine education and career development with practical patient-facing care. These posts are also suitable for trainees who wish to build their portfolios before applying for national core training rotations. The post holders will be eligible for completion of certificate of equivalence of core training. This certificate will allow trainees to apply for national specialty training programmes (STR) of their choice.

Each post holder will be assigned an educational supervisor and are expected to achieve all core training competencies set out by the ISCP. Trainees will be appointed at CT1 level and may be eligible to continue for a second year at CT2 level subject to a satisfactory Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP). The Trust reserves the right to close this vacancy early should a significant number of applications be received.

Applicants are therefore encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job

Post holders will participate on a full shift rota. They will work in collaboration with and under the direction of the Consultants and other members of the teams in the day-to-day management of patients within the service. Duties include ward rounds, assisting the consultants and senior trainees in the operating theatre, undertaking the pre- and post-operative care of patients on the wards, attending out-patient clinics and attending to referrals in the Emergency Department.

The post holders will have the opportunity to attend departmental teaching every week. They will also be encouraged to undertake continuing medical education and study leave will be available as per the Trust policy. Please see the attached full job description for an example weekly timetable.
