The primary aim of the role is to ensure that a high-quality service is given to patients and their families/carers during ophthalmic operations. The role is multi-dimensional and requires the post-holder to integrate and be a team player within the multidisciplinary team. As a registered Health professional all activities provide opportunities for acting as a role model for staff. The Registered health professional will co-ordinate and care for patients in a day care setting and operating theatre set in the Eye Centre.
Mainduties of the job
Strive for continuous improvements in the delivery of high quality patient focused care.
Participate in the delivery of Key Performance Indicators, increasing theatre/departmental utilisation by reducing unscheduled and cancelled operations/ appointments and late starts.
As part of the multi-disciplinary team, participate in the Who Five Steps to Safe Surgery for each patient.
Assess health related needs of patients and their carers to identify and initiate steps to deliver effective and evidence-based care. Carries out allocated work delegated by the Doctor or the Ophthalmic Nurse Specialist. This involves working independently and organising tasks and activities.
E.g., pre & post operative care of ophthalmic patients that have undergone surgery, to scrub for ophthalmic procedures, and work in the theatre environment.
Promote and demonstrate holistic care of individuals. Ensure correct usage and maintenance of equipment.
Be involved in the delivery of new strategies which impact on the clinical environment.
Maintain an awareness of national and regional initiatives in relation to practice.

First level Registered nurse /ODP
Experience of working in a day care/ theatre
Experience of working within Ophthalmology
Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team
An understanding of skills and knowledge required to lead and develop self and team members
