Field/Service Technician, Electrical Engineering
Our client is a well-established engineering company in the industrial automation sector seeking a Service Engineer to join their growing team. They design, install, commission, and service control systems for major industrial clients. With a strong portfolio of long-term service contracts and increasing demand from key clients, our client is expanding their engineering team and looking for technically capable Service Engineers to support their field service operations.
This is a field-based role covering the Yorkshire and North West regions supporting a range of industrial customers. The position combines planned maintenance, project installation work, and reactive support on industrial controls equipment.
The work breakdown is approximately 60% planned service and maintenance under annual service contracts, 20% project work including upgrades and new installations, and 20% reactive call-outs and fault finding. The position offers a basic salary between £40,000 and £50,000 depending on experience. On top of this premium overtime is paid above your contracted hours and travel time is paid door-to-door. Most work is completed within normal working hours and engineers typically return home each day.
Overnight stays may occasionally be required for larger projects, but this is rare.

Service Engineer - Responsibilities
- carrying out planned servicing and maintenance on inverter drives and control systems under existing service contracts
- diagnosing and repairing faults on industrial drives, motors, and associated control equipment
- supporting system upgrades and new installations as part of project work
- responding to reactive service call-outs when required,
- liaising with on-site maintenance teams and customer engineering staff
- investigating system faults including communication issues between PLCs and drives, and completing service documentation and reports
Service Engineer - Skills
- practical, hands-on service engineer with strong electrical and fault-finding skills
- experience working with industrial drives, inverters, motors, or control systems
- able to diagnose faults on electrical and automation systems
- an understanding of communications protocols between PLCs and drives
- strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are essential
- ability to work independently on customer sites.
- an apprenticeship-trained engineering background or strong practical engineering experience is preferred
