Job Title: Graduate / Final Year University Student – Classroom Support Role

Location: Wakefield

Pay: £85–£100 per day (depending on experience)

Start: ASAP or September – we can work around you

In your final year at uni and starting to think about what comes next?

Or recently graduated and weighing up teacher training, psychology, youth work… or any career working with young people?

Instead of guessing, why not try it for real?

We’re working with a welcoming mainstream secondary school in Wakefield who are looking for graduates and final-year students to join them in a classroom support role. It’s hands‑on, meaningful experience that gives you a genuine feel for school life.

What you’ll be doing
  • Supervising whole classes when teachers are off timetable
  • Supporting students in lessons, including those with SEND
  • Helping young people stay engaged and on track
  • Building confidence leading a classroom
  • Working alongside experienced teachers and support staff

You won’t be left to figure it out alone. There’s structure, guidance, and a team around you.

Who this role is perfect for
  • Final‑year university students planning their next step
  • Graduates considering teacher training
  • Anyone exploring careers in education, psychology, social care, or youth work
  • People who genuinely enjoy working with teenagers

If you’ve mentored, coached sport, volunteered, worked with young people, or supported peers at uni, that all counts.

Why it’s such good experience

If you’re thinking about teacher training, this gives you real classroom exposure before you commit. You’ll build behaviour management skills, confidence, and a proper understanding of how secondary schools operate.

And if you’re heading into another youth‑focused career, you’ll gain experience supporting a range of needs, including SEND, which is hugely valuable.

What you’ll get with Protocol Education
  • Weekly pay through PAYE, no umbrella companies
  • FREE access to our online CPD Academy
  • Ongoing support from a friendly, local consultant
  • Opportunities in mainstream and SEND settings
  • Simple registration and local placements

Are you Thrive trained? If not, we can get you access to our FREE Thrive training. It focuses on emotional wellbeing in schools and makes you even more appealing to schools straight away.

If you’re in your final year and want something lined up for after exams, or you’ve just graduated and want meaningful experience before your next big move, this could be it.

Wakefield secondary school. Real responsibility. Real impact.
