Consultant in General Surgery - Upper GI&Bariatric

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated surgeon to join our department at an exciting time in our Trusts future. The Department offers a supportive and encouraging environment in which to develop as a professional with opportunities to develop in sub-specialist fields.

Presently, General Surgery services are provided across three hospitals Dewsbury, Pinderfields and Pontefract with major Gastrointestinal Surgery and acute services provided on the Dewsbury and Pinderfields site. Bariatric Surgery is based on the Dewsbury site. The post holder would be expected to participate in the on-call General Surgery rota.

MYTT has an established Bariatric Surgery Service with a team comprising two Bariatric surgeons, Bariatric physicians, specialist dieticians, specialist nurse, specialist psychologist and community physiotherapy. The Bariatric Surgery team are responsible for the delivery of the Specialist Obesity and Bariatric Services (SOBS), the post holder would be involved in supporting the further development of this service including establishing clinical networks.

The post is advertised as a whole time 10 PA post, although less-than-full time applications or job sharing arrangements may be considered. Additional Programmed Activities may be offered.

Main duties of the job

The mainduties of the post will include:

Emergency On-Call Commitment

On-call rota: 1:9 resident, alternating betweenfirst and second on-call (paired Upper GI and Colorectal surgeons).

Non-resident nights: 1:18.

Consultants are expected to reside within 30minutes of the acute site.

All elective activity is cancelled during theon-call week.

Separate admin time is allocated following acutework.

On-call responsibilities include:

Supervision and participation in emergency procedures.

Post-take ward rounds.

Clinical decision-making and oversight of acuteadmissions.

Bariatric Service commitments

In addition to the on-call commitments, the appointedindividual will be expected to undertake regular job-planned activities supporting the continued growth and development of the Specialist Obesity and Bariatric Service (SOBS) in collaboration with colleagues. The postholder will provide comprehensive clinical care essential to maintaining a safe,high-quality, and continuously improving bariatric service. This will include delivering specialist clinical sessions in both outpatient and theatre settings,as well as active participation in regular multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Consultant Surgeon to join the General and GI Surgery Department at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust (MYTT) during a pivotal phase in our organisations development.

We offer a supportive, collaborative, and forward-thinking environment, with excellent opportunities for professional growth and sub-specialist development within an experienced and well-established multidisciplinary team.

This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered. Additional Programmed Activities may be available.

The successful candidate will receive mentoring for the first 12 months and will be supported in developing robotic surgical skills through structured departmental training opportunities.
