Join to apply for the Behavioral Health Specialist V - Leeward District Administration role at Hawaiʻi State Department of Education

This posting is used to fill Behavioral Health Specialist positions providing services to students at various schools within the Central District, as needed and assigned by the Central District Office.

Salary Range: All new external applicants will be placed on the initial step of the salary range. Placement above the initial step will depend on qualifications, experience, and other factors. Hawaii State Department of Education employees will be placed according to Department regulations.

Behavioral Health Specialist V, SR-24: $6,043.00 - $7,351.00 per month

Examples of Duties
  • Oversee and monitor work performance of staff providing school-based behavioral health services within a district.
  • Evaluate staff performance and complete appraisals timely.
  • Ensure services conform to laws, policies, and standards; take corrective actions when needed.
  • Ensure delivery of appropriate services to students as outlined in IEP/504 Plans.
  • Collaborate with providers and agencies to coordinate services and participate in interagency meetings.
  • Provide technical support to school personnel on behavioral health integration and legal compliance.
  • Assist in program development, evaluation, and resource planning for district behavioral health services.
  • Administer policies, monitor budgets, review contracted services, and develop community-based care systems.
  • Manage complaints, sentinel events, and incident reports; collaborate with involved agencies.
  • Develop and deliver staff training on behavioral health practices and IDEA/504 compliance.
  • Train staff, review reports, oversee recordkeeping, and sign Medicaid documents.
  • May provide direct services.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in counseling, marriage/family therapy, psychology, or social work from an accredited institution.

Experience: At least 3 years of professional post-masters experience in counseling or therapy, involving emotional, behavioral, or mental health support, with responsibilities demonstrating capability to perform duties.

License: Hawaii State license as a Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist, or Marriage and Family Therapist.

Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver's license.

Additional info: Submit all required documents, including transcripts, licenses, and certifications, within 10 days of application. Temporary assignment experience verification is specified. The position is full-time with benefits, and applicants must meet all requirements as of the application date.
