HD Mechanic​/Jack trades

Position: HD Mechanic/Jack of all trades
McSteel Salvage & Cleanup is a family run company with locations in Wainwright, AB and High Prairie, AB. We are a scrap metal recycling company with a fleet of equipment.

We’re looking for a skilled and versatile Heavy-Duty Mechanic who can also step into a variety of general maintenance and repair tasks. If you’re the type of person who thrives on hands-on work, solves problems on the fly, and enjoys variety in your day, this role is a great fit.

We have 12 semi-trucks, 15 trailers, 4 loaders, 6 excavators, 2 skid steers as well as 7 pick-up trucks.

* Key Responsibilities
* * Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty equipment (trucks, trailers, loaders, excavators, etc.)

* Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues

* Handle general shop and facility repairs (welding, carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical)

* Assist with equipment setup, yard work, and miscellaneous tasks as needed

* Maintain accurate service records and ensure equipment is safe and operational

* Work independently and prioritize tasks.

* Assist with part ordering

* Qualifications
* * Experience working on machinery (Trucks, trailers, loaders, excavators, etc.)

* Strong mechanical aptitude with experience across multiple trades

* Ability to read manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools

* Welding and fabrication experience considered an asset

* Valid driver’s license (Class 1 or 3 is an advantage)

* Strong problem-solving skills and a can‑do attitude

* Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in various weather conditions

Wage will be paid out based on experience. References will be required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00-$45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
