Overall Purpose of the Position:
A Sleep Technologist performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general oversight of the clinical director or designee. The position requires independent overnight work. A Sleep Technologist will provide supervision to the Sleep Assistant/Trainee.

Job Responsibilities:

- Verify the medical order and protocol.
- Complete and verify documentation.
- Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center.
- Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning.
- Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals.
- Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
- Follow procedural protocols for polysomnographic procedures.
- Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values.
- Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
- Follow “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process.
- Provide supervision and training for Sleep Assistants/Trainees.
- Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust, if necessary.
- Provide with instructions on the set up and use of equipment.
- Download exam data and transmit for review and reporting.
- Schedule and assist with communications with sleep patients.
- Miscellaneous task for the sleep lab department.
- Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
- Participate in equipment care and maintenance.
- Maintain current CPR or BCLS certification.
- Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills.
- Demonstrate appropriate social skills and the ability to follow direction.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Successful completion of a polysomnography program, of no less than one-year duration, associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Sleep Trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies.
Licensure & Certification
Required:
RPSGT, CPSGT, RST
