Pay Rate: $15

This position is reserved for Federal Work Study (FWS) students only. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Supports members in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall aquatics experience, while incorporating YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility when carrying out their job functions.

  • In a student employee capacity, may assist in working with external community service partners.
  • Essential Functions:
    • Responsible for the safety and well-being of members.
    • Cultivate positive relationships and maintain effective communication with members and other staff.
    • Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
    • Communicates effectively with Site Director and Aquatics Director.
    • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
    • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
    • Maintains required program records.
    • Maintains program site and equipment in an orderly manner.
    • Must be reliable with a good attendance record.
    • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications:
    • Complete YMCA or ARC Lifeguard Training.
    • Complete Child Abuse Prevention training prior to first day of work.
    • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
    • Must complete required training hours on an annual basis.
    • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
    • Experience working with children is a plus but not required.

    • Must be mentally alert to make sound judgments and decisions even when distracted by noise and activity, and can work with irate, complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing comments made
    • Must be able to lift 30 pounds without strain.
    • Physical demands essential to this position:
      Climbing, kneeling, reaching, pushing, digital dexterity, balancing, crouching, standing, pulling, grasping, repetitive motion, stooping, crawling, and walking.
