Overview
Control Room Operator will closely monitor resident activities, open and close security passages to allow movement of officers and residents through computer control, and must be capable of quick response in emergency situations.
Responsibilities- Ensuring that the Control Rooms remain secure at all times and that no unauthorized person enter the Control Rooms
- Monitoring and controlling all sally port doors that enter into the secured area of the facility. Also, monitoring and controlling all of the sally port doors in the housing units
- Control Room Operators must become thoroughly familiar and competent with the operation of the Detention Center’s control room equipment, general procedures, and emergency procedures
- They will visually monitor the residents and the various security systems, utilizing those systems to maintain a safe and secure environment within the detention facility
- Ensuring the surveillance monitors are observed at all times
- Monitoring of all fire alarms within the facility
- Regular attendance and timeliness is required

Education- High School Diploma or GED
- Applicant must be twenty-one years of age on /or before date of hire
- Ability to work in a hostile environment of residents and their visitors without reacting in a negative manner and project a professional image at all times
- Exceptional skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with County staff, inmates, police departments and the public
- General skill in operating standard office equipment such as personal computers, calculators, and telephones
- Ability to supervise emergency situations, make effective decisions under stressful situations
- General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems
- Work is performed mostly indoors in a 24-hour/7-day confined, security facility
- Frequent contact with the public, parents of clients, and hostile detainees
- May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other bodily fluid
- Standing, walking, and light lifting of supplies
- The individual must be able to physically restrain residents exhibiting disruptive behavior in a safe manner in accordance with the behavior management training
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical
- Must be able to complete and pass pre-employment and random drug tests
This position works one of the following three shifts:
1st
Shift: 7:00 a.m.
-3:00 p.m.
2nd
Shift: 3:00 p.m.
-11:00 p.m.
3rd
Shift: 11:00 p.m.
-7:00 a.m.
This position may be required to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the facility. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and other shifts assigned by the Assistant Superintendent
