Summary

This Work Leader position is a journeyman laundry worker with additional duties of regularly directing and serving as a team leader for six to twenty laundry workers and three machine operators. Incumbent may be used to provide training to lower grade laundry workers. This leader position will require the knowledge of and ability to perform all duties as outlined in the Laundry Worker WG-1 - WG-2 - and WG-5 Machine Operators position descriptions.

A specific length of training and experience is not required – but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Screen-out element:
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen-out element – usually question 1 in the online questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements:
Dexterity and Safety Interpret Instructions – Specifications (other than blueprint reading), Lead or Supervise Materials Operation of Equipment/Machinery, Technical Practices, Work Practices. Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work that builds competencies.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

Heavy lifting – 45 lb+;
Heavy carrying – 45 lb+;
Straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, both hands required. Walking 6 hrs; standing 2‑6 hrs; kneeling 1‑2 hrs; repeated bending 1‑2 hrs; climbing – legs only 1‑2 hrs; climbing – legs and arms; both legs required; rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Vision: near 13–16 in to Jaeger 1‑4; far 20/20 in one eye to 20/40 in the other;

depth perception; color discrimination; hearing (aid permitted).

Duties
  • The organizational location of the position is in the Laundry Section – Environmental Management Service (EMS) – at Waco, TX.
  • Campus of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System – CTVHCS – Temple, TX.
  • This Work Leader is a non-supervisory worker who performs regular non-supervisory Laundry Machine Operator work as a member of the crew(s) or group(s) they lead.
  • Responsible for leading up to approximately twenty-five Laundry Workers and three Laundry Machine Operators.
  • The tour of duty varies depending on the requirements of the Textile Processing Facility.
  • Tours may include day shift, evening shift, weekend, or a combination.
  • Incumbent may be used to provide training to lower‑grade Laundry Workers.
  • Requires knowledge of all duties outlined in Laundry Worker WG‑7304‑01 – WG‑7304‑02 and Laundry Machine Operator WG‑7305‑04.
  • Work leader responsibilities: assign tasks, set pace, demonstrate proper methods, ensure plans, blueprints, materials, tools are available and stock is obtained.
  • Obtain needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems.
  • Maintain current knowledge and answer questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and directives.
  • Ensure sufficient work to keep crew busy.
  • Check work in progress and when finished to confirm compliance with supervisor instructions.
  • Urge or advise workers to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Report to supervisors on status, progress, and causes of delays.
  • Answer supervisors’ questions on overall operations and problems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Non-leader duties: based on the work led in Laundry Machine Operator WG‑7305‑04.
  • Work schedule:

    Sunday through Saturday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
