Brazos Electric Cooperative provides transmission and distribution services for 16 Texas electric co-ops whose service territory extends across 68 counties from the Texas Panhandle to Houston. Those 16 co-ops are the member-owners of Brazos Electric, and our board of directors is comprised of one representative from each of our member-owners.
About the RoleBrazos Electric Power Cooperative is seeking a Transmission System Planning Engineer to play a critical role in ensuring the reliable planning, operation, and long‑term strength of our transmission system. This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering analysis, system reliability, ERCOT coordination, and member‑focused planning—helping shape the future of electric infrastructure across Texas.

Responsibilities- Perform steady‑state and dynamic transmission system studies using PSSE and/or Power World with ERCOT‑approved models.
- Analyze simulated and real‑world system performance to identify current and future reliability needs.
- Conduct operational, contingency, generation interconnection, and large‑load impact studies.
- Develop technically sound recommendations to address system constraints and future growth.
- Prepare annual near‑term and long‑term transmission planning assessments in compliance with NERC Reliability Standards, ERCOT protocols, and Brazos Planning Procedures.
- Support regulatory and planning filings, including the FERC Form 715.
- Develop and maintain a Five‑Year Construction Work Plan, including system improvements and member extension projects.
- Develop a comprehensive five‑year transmission budget based on system study results.
- Prepare a five‑year member extension budget using input from Brazos’ member cooperatives.
- Prepare and submit transmission model updates in accordance with ERCOT protocols.
- Participate in ERCOT committees, working groups, and task forces related to transmission planning and system operations.
- Manage and analyze large data sets using Access databases and Excel, including load data, transformer data, UFLS information, and system model data.
- Coordinate and participate in annual planning meetings with member cooperatives.
- Provide system performance and planning reports, including transformer loading and power factor analysis.
- Perform Under‑Frequency Load Shed (UFLS) studies and recommend updates in compliance with ERCOT and SERC requirements.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred).
- Prefer a minimum of five (5) years of progressive engineering experience, preferably in electric utility or transmission planning environments.
- Texas Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration.
- Transmission and/or distribution planning experience within a utility or electric cooperative.
- Familiarity with ERCOT protocols, NERC standards, and transmission planning tools.
