General Responsibilities

All EOAC employees must support EOAC's mission and goals, respect confidentiality, and maintain the dignity and integrity of individuals in a position of public trust. They must improve the organization, communicate openly, empower each other to excel, and uphold client/agency confidentiality as required by State and Federal laws, regulations, and professional practice standards.

Primary Purpose

This position will help EOAC implement practices that support trauma‑informed care and support teachers with behavior management, training, and documentation for children with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, cognitive disabilities, Autism, and behavioral challenges. The Behavior Specialist will work with Child and Family Advocates in their casework to help children and families resolve personal, emotional, and social issues that interfere with their school readiness goals, and will help teachers implement Conscious Discipline in the classrooms while providing training and technical assistance to the Teacher Floater Behavior Support.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or related degree
  • Master's degree, preferred
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW) with additional clinical training or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or licensed mental health counselor (LMHS) with a master's in counseling, highly desirable
  • Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions
  • Strong organizational, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of academic and/or behavior goal‑setting process and implementation of leadership skills, highly desirable
  • Two years of experience
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed care and behavior management
  • Knowledge and skills working collectively and one‑to‑one with children
  • Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and children
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and individual and group counseling skills, highly desirable
  • Experience with writing behavior plans (Child Action Plans) and making behavioral recommendations, highly desirable
Major Responsibilities & Duties
  • Develop functional behavior assessments and create Child Action Plans (if warranted) for children.
  • Provide training for all staff on implementing the Child Action Plan and findings of the functional behavior assessment.
  • Assist in developing Child Action Plans, counseling, and social work goals.
  • Conduct staffing to review Child Action Plans with parents and staff.
  • Consult with staff regarding implementing individual plans and managing children with disruptive behaviors.
  • Provide counseling to children per the Child Action Plan and complete necessary documentation in Child Plus.
  • Provide staff development training to assist staff with understanding children with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.
  • Implement and monitor the agency behavior model, Conscious Discipline, in classrooms with children exhibiting challenging behavior.
  • Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of children.
  • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with children and parents.
  • Comply with all childcare licensing, Head Start/Early Head Start regulations, and developmentally appropriate practice.
