Instructor – Diesel Instructor

Texas State Technical College (TSTC) invites qualified candidates to join our faculty as a Diesel Instructor. In this role, you will deliver approved curriculum, foster student engagement, and lead applied learning experiences.

Job Overview

As an instructor, you will facilitate classroom and hands‑on instruction, mentor students, and integrate technology to enhance learning. You will also collaborate with department leadership on recruitment and program promotion, participate in student advisement, and maintain academic standards.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver high‑quality instruction, develop syllabi, and organize daily classes using creative and innovative techniques.
  • Facilitate activities and discussions that engage diverse learning styles and provide targeted guidance and mentorship.
  • Interpret and administer assessments, offer constructive feedback, and support student growth and learning outcomes.
  • Integrate technology effectively to enrich educational experiences.
  • Maintain accurate student records, uphold safety and equipment security, and ensure instructional environment quality.
  • Participate in student advisement and collaborate with the Office of Student Success to enhance retention.
  • Assist with program recruitment, tours, and promotional events.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with evening, weekend, or summer assignments as needed and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Certifications or Licenses
  • Read and understand wiring diagrams; perform resistance checks and voltage drop measurements.
  • Check and adjust fluid levels; perform tire pressure monitoring system service and repairs.
  • Repair and rebuild engines; conduct steering, suspension, and system diagnosis.
  • Service, repair, and maintain air and hydraulic brake systems, including ABS.
  • Maintain HVAC 134a & 1234yf systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years in the diesel industry with related experience.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Certifications or Licenses
  • Manufacturer certifications.
  • Experience in heavy‑duty equipment mechanics, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Supervisory or management experience.
  • Teaching or team‑leading experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years in truck and/or equipment maintenance.
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in a closely related field and demonstrated qualifications in the technology’s teaching discipline.
  • Verifiable professional experience may be accepted in lieu of other requirements as approved by the Vice Chancellor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a closely related teaching discipline.
Salary

Salary Range: $68,400 – $78,661. Final offer will be based on experience and qualifications.
