The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DCAPBS) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a pediatric psychologist for our Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. The psychologist will join an established psychosocial team in GI that includes pediatric psychologists, social workers, and child life specialists. The psychologist will provide primarily outpatient clinical care, consultation, and training in collaboration with the Division of Gastroenterology and faculty from the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DCAPBS) at the CHOP Specialty Care Site in Voorhees, NJ.

This role will provide in-person and telehealth treatment services for a variety of gastrointestinal presentations that include disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBIs), inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, and constipation. This role is a primarily clinical position, although there are opportunities for clinical research and program development in collaboration with the Division of Gastroenterology and DCAPBS. The psychologist will participate in the department’s APA-accredited Psychology Internship Training Program as well as GI Psychology Externship and Postdoctoral Fellowship Programs.

Faculty appointment at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania on the Academic Clinician Track is strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive assessment and treatment services to children and families in inpatient, day hospital, and/or outpatient settings, and communicate with referral sources as indicated.
  • Perform clinical services at a percentage of effort as designated by the supervisor.
  • Adhere to DCAPBS productivity standards and present an Epic schedule that meets department/division guidelines.
  • Follow all CHOP and DCAPBS policies and procedures regarding clinical and administrative activity associated with providing direct patient care.
  • Ensure professional practice is in accordance with applicable professional and licensing body standards.
  • Practice as an Independent Clinician and assure CHOP, DCAPBS, Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies’ patient‑care standards are met.
  • Maintain clinical and billing documentation standards and comply with CHOP and DCAPBS documentation requirements through chart review and direct observation.
  • Serve in clinical leadership roles such as developing protocols, peer education programs, and monitoring compliance, collaborating with DCAPBS clinicians to operationalize and grow empirically‑based models of care, acting as a resource and mentor for DCAPBS clinicians, and demonstrating leadership in developing programs and designing/executing QI and/or patient‑safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate with DCAPBS and other Department/Division colleagues to ensure that patients receive care consistent with the patient’s circumstances and needs, respond to requests for consultation and service in a timely manner, participate in DCAPBS and CHOP committees, and support patients in being appropriately scheduled.
  • Attend and participate in department/division/institution meetings appropriate for or required by the role.
  • Participate in education and training within the department’s training programs, including providing clinical supervision, lectures, and facilitated learning experiences, and establishing high‑quality educational experiences for department trainees.
  • Engage in professional activities: membership in national professional organizations, active involvement in DCAPBS, CHOP, regional, and national activities, participation in the dissemination of psychological science and/or clinical care at local, regional, or national level.
  • If applicable, conduct research of significant scientific value relevant to their practice specialty, participate in design, planning, and conduct of psychological research, collaborate on data analysis and dissemination of findings, assist in developing publications, submit grant applications, and manage research funds.
