Position: Materiel Specialist I

MATERIEL SPECIALIST I

Examination No. 26-011

San Diego Superior Court is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Materiel Specialist I. The eligible list of candidates resulting from this recruitment will replace the existing list and may be used to fill vacancies as needed.

There is currently one (1) full‑time position with benefits approved to be filled at the San Diego Superior Court's North County Division courthouse, 325 South Melrose Drive in Vista.

A valid California Class C driver's license and a good driving record must be maintained throughout the course of employment in this job classification.

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Materiel Specialist provides a wide range of property, supply and mail services to all court facilities throughout the county; and performs related duties as required.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to: receiving, storing, issuing, delivering, and disposing of materials, supplies, equipment, and fixed assets; maintaining logs and records of inventory and warehousing activities; assisting in the maintenance of stores' cost allocations; using and operating personal computers related to mail service activities; receiving, sorting, distributing, and delivering incoming and outgoing mail court-wide; loading, transporting and delivering supplies, equipment, documents, forms, files, and other commodities court-wide;

performing minor facility modifications and/or work requests requiring manual dexterity.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

should have the following:

KNOWLEDGE OF
  • Modern inventory control practices and procedures;
  • Physical asset security techniques;
  • Generally accepted warehousing procedures;
  • Postal regulations;
  • Record keeping methods;
  • Safety practices;
  • Operating a wide variety of tools, equipment and machinery as used in postal, warehousing and office operations and environments.
ABILITY TO
  • Follow written and verbal instructions;
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Exercise good judgment, tact and courtesy;
  • Maintain confidentiality;
  • Review documents and records for correctness of form and sufficiency of information;
  • Operate a motor vehicle safely;
  • Operate and use personal computers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Routine assignments require prolonged and sustained physical effort and exertion while moving and/or relocating supplies and equipment, which could weigh up to 100 pounds. Moving activities physically involve walking, raising arms, reaching above shoulder height, stooping, carrying, pushing, pulling, lifting, loading, stretching, and bending, some of which may be accomplished with the assistance of tools and devices (pallet jacks, hand trucks, dollies, etc.).

WORKING

CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be exposed to noxious fumes, confined work spaces, wide temperature variances, and outdoor weather conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of full‑time work experience in either a mail services position, which included receiving, sorting, distributing, and delivering mail; or a warehousing/supply services position, which included receiving, sorting, issuing, and tracking materials and equipment; or a combination of the two equaling at least one (1) year of full‑time work experience.

Experience with an automated inventory management system is highly desirable.
