Overview

VISTA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
- Lead Electrician

The purpose of a Lead Electrician is to provide industrial electrician services with specific responsibility to provide training, support, and work direction to assigned staff; install, repair, maintain, and upgrade electrical systems and equipment; ensure compliance with accessibility and health and safety codes; provide information on the proper techniques and use of equipment; ensure completion of projects in accordance with trade standards;

assist other skilled trades; and ensure that tools and materials are available at the job site. This position reports to the Maintenance and Grounds Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzes blueprints, schematics, and drawings for existing and proposed electrical systems to identify locations and determine efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, and/or in-service training to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
  • Collaborates with internal and external parties to convey and gather information required to perform job functions and complete work orders efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Confer with immediate supervisor to coordinate day-to-day activities (e.g., work orders, work direction to other staff) to ensure assignments are completed safely, properly, and on time, maximizing workforce efficiency.
  • Coordinates with supervisor and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Diagnoses causes of electrical problems or failures to identify equipment and/or system repair and replacement needs.
  • Informs supervisor and staff regarding procedures and status of work orders for decision-making, action, and compliance with building and health and safety regulations.
  • Installs, inspects, maintains, and replaces electrical system components (e.g., lighting, alarms, electrical panels, switches, circuits, scoreboards) to provide enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities.
  • Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g., sketches, plans, specifications, inventory, work orders, labor/material estimates, equipment repair manuals) for up-to-date reference and audit trail.
  • Maintains tools and equipment to ensure availability in safe operating condition.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and materials to ensure availability of items required to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Monitors and inspects the work of assigned staff and outside contractors to ensure projects are satisfactorily completed within district specifications and identify preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Monitors buildings and facilities to evaluate condition, identify necessary repairs, and recommend preventive maintenance.
  • Prepares written materials, reports, and documentation related to assigned activities and personnel (e.g., estimates, costs, work order status, time sheets, procurement of equipment, repair status, activity logs, work orders, scheduling, purchase orders, bids, records of time and materials, specifications, drawings, and schematics) to document activities and convey information.
  • Provides work direction to staff as assigned to ensure projects are satisfactorily completed and within district specifications.
  • Repairs electrical components and/or systems (e.g., motors, circuits, transformers, generators, compressors, switches, intercom systems, kitchen equipment, communications, overloads, lighting fixtures) to ensure items are available in safe working condition and compliant with fire regulations and building codes.
  • Requests equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability of items required for installation and/or repairs.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Trains assigned personnel on procedures and related services to provide direction and develop professional and safety awareness skills.
  • Transports tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure availability of materials at the job site.
  • Works from rough drawings, sketches, plans, and specifications; estimates labor, materials, and/or equipment needed to complete work projects for timely completion.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
