Maintenance Manager

Assistant Maintenance Manager works with the Maintenance Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day functions of mechanics, bus washers, utility workers, and administrative staff. Maintenance facilities typically operate on a three‑shift basis to ensure that maintenance on equipment is completed; tests and inspections of products, services and process to evaluate quality or performance of that equipment is accomplished; and specifications are met to DOT, client or company standards.

This position is based in the insert location in support of the insert contract name.

  • Competitive compensation package of minimum $90,000 – maximum $115,000

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directing quality control checks on repairs, enforcing maintenance standards, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Managing preventative maintenance schedules, overseeing repairs, and working with technicians to resolve issues.
  • Approve priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and requirements of scheduled operations.
  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside vendors.
  • Ensure company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently.
  • Manage inventory.
  • Implement safety policies and procedures for the department per corporate requirements.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the operational budget.
  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods.
  • Other duties as required.
Travel requirement outside of immediate area (as a percent):

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred.
  • 5 years+ experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of heavy‑duty automotive and transit equipment.
  • 3 years+ of supervisory experience.
  • Broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy‑duty transportation vehicles.
  • Familiarity with laws & regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions – 100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
