Law Clerk

This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Tulare County District Attorney Office. Current vacancy is with the District Attorney’s Office located in Visalia. The anticipated life of the list is six months.

• Assist in the preparation of legal documents, such as agreements, deeds, trial briefs, points and authority on motions, writs and appeals
• Study, interpret and apply ordinances, statutes, regulations, court decisions and other legal authority for use in the preparation of cases, opinions and briefs
• Review, analyze, and draft contracts and other legal documents
• Examine case files to prepare witness subpoena lists
• May interview witnesses

• Equivalent to completion of one (1) year from a law school accredited by the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California,
  or successful completion of the first-year law student's examination, (California mini-bar).

• Legal citations to assist attorneys.
• Interviewing techniques.
• Trial procedures and rules of evidence.

• Make effective presentations in courtroom settings or local agency public meetings.

Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions.
