Overview

The City of Visalia is recruiting for Engineers and Project Managers in its Engineering Division. Positions may be filled at any level based on candidate qualifications. Please for the recruitment announcement.

THE DIVISION

The City of Visalia's Engineering and Building Department serves the City by providing a wide range of engineering services to the development community. The Division is highly active, managing all facets of municipal engineering services including capital project design and construction, private development project review, traffic safety, and public works inspections. The Division oversees a multitude of improvement projects ranging from street expansions, traffic signal installations, sewer and storm drain utilities, and City building projects such as the new Council Chambers, Public Safety Building, and all emergency service buildings.

THE

POSITION

The selected Engineers/Project Managers will oversee completion of City capital improvement projects and development projects which may include road improvements, fiber optic connectivity, bike trails, park improvements, pavement management, storm and sewer projects, facility maintenance, residential and commercial development and other projects requiring public infrastructure maintenance. Staff will monitor and inspect the work of contractors and vendors to evaluate progress on project completion;

prepare estimates, Requests for Bids, change orders, and documents associated with projects. Engineers/Project Managers will be expected to coordinate and work collaboratively with contractors, vendors, City departments and divisions.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, sound knowledge of engineering or project management principles, customer service skills, and a demonstrated track record of successfully completing projects. The position requires excellent judgment, integrity, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be a self-driven individual, willing to take on new challenges, show flexibility in working on a variety of projects, and have the ability to effectively communicate and build positive working relationships to successfully deliver projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill and abilities would be:

  • Assistant Engineer
    : BS degree in civil engineering and 1 year of civil engineering experience. Possession of an Engineering in Training certificate is desirable.
  • Associate Engineer
    : BS degree in civil engineering and 3 years of civil engineering experience.
  • Civil Engineer
    : BS degree in civil engineering and 4 years of civil engineering experience. Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
  • Senior Civil Engineer
    : BS degree in civil engineering and 5 years of civil engineering experience. Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
  • CIP Project Manager I: BS degree in related field and 1 year of project management experience.
  • CIP Project Manager II
    : BS degree in related field and 3 years of project management experience.
  • Senior CIP Project Manager
    : BS degree in related field and 4 years of project management experience.
SELECTION PROCESS
