Job Description
The Staff Dentist is responsible for the provision of dental services in a Patient Centered Health Home context, with a focus on access to care.
Primary Responsibilities- Direct provision of dental services meeting all established productivity expectations.
- Provide comprehensive dental examination and review appropriate x‑rays, medical and dental histories to determine a diagnosis.
- Expect to document visits accurately using appropriate templates and record relevant data to attain a diagnosis.
- Accountable for attaining budgeted visits and meeting clinical care measures.
- Ensures records are locked within the 72‑hour window.
- Perform diagnostic, preventive and restorative oral procedures.
- Evaluate patient’s teeth to determine diagnosis of any existing dental condition.
- Inform patients on prevention of dental problems and maintaining oral health.
- Discuss treatment methods and explain options with the patient to determine best approach based on their situation.
- Refer patients to orthodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists or other specialists for advanced procedures when appropriate.
- Provide excellent customer service and care.
- Consistently behaves with courtesy when interacting with patients/family members, support staff, and network staff.
- Listens to patients and families, showing understanding of their needs.
- Provides patients with educational materials and resources appropriate to their health literacy levels.
- Accountable for patient status as measured by relevant clinical quality measures.
- Remaining aware of wait time during daily workflow.
- Promoting and participating in daily huddles.
- Incorporating participation of ancillary health team members in managing patient care.
- Assisting with assurance of clinical procedures and maintaining up‑to‑date protocols.
- Consistently observing OSHA and Standard Precautions.
- Interacting with professional medical staff to provide comprehensive care to mutual patients.
- Completing chart and peer review responsibilities timely.
- Assist supervisors in planning and implementing new programs for the dental department.
- Participating in network health fairs, screening activities and community outreach events.
- Assisting supervisors with performance evaluations of support staff and quality improvement.
- Assisting NDD/CDD with review and update of clinical policies and procedures.
- Providing feedback and guidance to dental residents and dental assistant externs.
- Participating in site and provider meetings meaningfully.
- Participating in “On Call” coverage as scheduled.
- Meeting network and credentialing expectations for licensure and employment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Professional & Technical Knowledge – Requires extensive formal training in Dental studies (Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine Doctor degree).
- Create highly complex documents in Microsoft Word, including linking multiple files and embedding objects.
- Use advanced functions of Microsoft Excel for database creation, standardized reports, or linking worksheets and workbooks.
- Develop sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint with embedded objects and transitions.
Licensed in the state of California as a Dentist.
Communications Skills- Effectively communicate professional opinions and extrapolations of collected information.
- Determine appropriate methods of communicating information using tables, graphs, charts, and other visual forms.
- Prepare and execute presentations to large groups.
