Assistant Superintendent at D.R. Horton

Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000 (including quarter bonus)

Job Overview

D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest home builder in the U.S., was founded in 1978 and is a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. It is engaged in the construction and sale of high quality homes designed principally for the entry‑level and first‑time move‑up markets. The company also provides mortgage financing and title services for home buyers through its mortgage and title subsidiaries.

We are looking for an Assistant Superintendent. The right candidate will assist the Superintendent with the management of the community job site as it relates to home construction while providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect each home daily to assure quality of workmanship and compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Scheduling and walking all inspections with inspectors.
  • Walk each completed home before homeowner walk‑throughs and closing sign‑off to ensure the home is complete, clean, and meets quality standards.
  • Conduct homeowner orientation and additional walks ensuring homeowner satisfaction.
  • Aid Superintendent to ensure subcontractors are managed and continually evaluated on quality, safety, scheduling, and cost control measures.
  • Enforce the site safety program and ensure subcontractor compliance with company standards and all applicable safety codes and regulations.
  • Enforce D.R. Horton cleanliness standards – keep communities and jobsites free of trash & waste materials.
  • Assist Superintendent in managing construction materials to prevent damage, waste, & theft.
  • Support the construction schedule and ensure the highest quality product delivered on time and within budget.
  • Provide superior customer service during all phases of construction.
  • Develop and maintain positive relations with subcontractors and homeowners.
  • Develop knowledge in building codes, construction materials, methodologies, terminology and construction scheduling.
  • In absence of Superintendent, ensure all schedules, policies, and guidelines are maintained.
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase goodwill and profit.
  • Ability to work overtime and additional hours as necessary to meet business needs.
Qualifications & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six months to 2 years of related experience in construction.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel among construction sites.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to read plans and construction documents.
  • Minimum supervision required; ability to create systematic approach in carrying out assignments.
  • Ability to converse with customers, management, and personnel.
  • Ability to utilize DRH Construction applications on smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college.
  • Ability to work effectively in high pressure situations.
