Payroll Specialist (Administrative) —. Proteus is the premier provider of training, education, and community services within the agriculturally rich Central San Joaquin Valley. PositionSummary
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll and maintaining employee time records. Additionally, they will enter payroll data into the system database, verify the accuracy of figures and computations, and balance and reconcile accounts.
Essential Responsibilities- Enters, maintains, and processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees' hourly rates, salaries, other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
- Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Issues, reissues, physical or replacement checks, or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent and Associate's degree in a related field; or two years of directly related (accounting/payroll) experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - COMPUTER
SKILLS:
Moderate computer skills required for data entry, Word, Excel, and other software programs, as required for the position. - LANGUAGE
SKILLS:
Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, or organizations. - MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. - REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. - CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Access to transportation, a California driver's license, and the minimum vehicle insurance needed by law. - PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Employees are regularly required to stand and use their hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms; sit, kneel, stoop, climb, or balance. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Travel to other locations and outside training. Ability to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and ability to maneuver a dolly. - WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor work environment. Working conditions include attendance at meetings, travel to other locations and outside training. - AT-WILL STATEMENT:
