Job Overview
As a Customs Entry Writer at Kuehne+Nagel, your role optimises logistics to keep our global supply chains running smoothly. Your expertise makes both special and ordinary moments possible for people around the world. For example, you help ensure that a global product launch happens on time—such as ethically sourced beauty and bath products stocked at local stores for your loved one's valued self‑care routine.
It’s import and export work, but it’s also much more than that.
Reporting to the Customs Brokerage Manager, you will be responsible for auditing all customs entries performed by teammates and processing customs entries through pre‑keying, filing, and analysis to ensure accurate processing with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other agencies.
The Work Location is Kuehne + Nagel Inc., 22920 Ladbrook Drive, Suite 120, Dulles, VA , United States.
Responsibilities- Preparation of all documents necessary to clear merchandise through U.S. Customs & Border Protection and participating governmental agencies (FDA, EPA, DOT, FCC, Fish and Wildlife).
- Ensure timely arrival and readiness to work at your assigned starting time.
- Process shipments within department guidelines according to NBSC Customer list and controlling branch instructions.
- Ensure timely and accurate input of all data/information necessary to process and facilitate shipments through U.S. Customs and PSG’s.
- Classify goods according to the customer SOPs and/or instructions.
- Check Cargowise "buckets" daily to ensure all steps in entry/brokerage processes are being followed.
- Document review and assessment for accuracy, verification of critical data elements for entry processing.
- Scanning, archiving entry document images and communicating entry # and entry status to carrier.
- Communicate documentation discrepancies to supervisor and/or controlling branch.
- Request or compile any necessary import documentation from client.
- Manage and assist to resolve all customer queries and ensure resolution of all problems.
- Interact closely with internal customers/departments to ensure customer service levels are achieved.
- Achieve minimum prescribed hours of training each year.
- HS diploma or bachelor’s degree is desirable.
- 2+ years of experience in customs brokerage handling import shipments.
- Proficiency in customs brokerage software (e.g., Cargowise) and Microsoft Office Suite is an asset.
- Knowledge of Incoterms, CBP regulations, FDA Prior Notice, and other HTSUS classification import processes.
- Ability to multi‑task, attention to detail, analyze complex regulatory requirements, and ensure 100% compliance.
