Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Autonomous Licensed) – UVA Medical Associates of Louisa
UVA Medical Associates of Louisa seeks an Autonomous Licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide advanced practice services across outpatient settings in Louisa, VA. The position requires 2–3 years clinical experience and a master’s degree in nursing or an equivalent program.
Practice
Hours:
Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm.
Schedule: 4, 10‑hour days Monday–Friday.
Type: Outpatient only, Full Time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the medical director and interprofessional team to facilitate patient care and management throughout the health care system.
- Exercise independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes and procedures within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing.
- Perform and document comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, including initiation of CPR or other emergency therapy as needed.
- Formulate diagnoses, identify problems and health risk profiles, and communicate findings with the health care team.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies such as x‑rays and laboratory tests in consultation with peers and colleagues.
- Perform procedures within scope of practice and UVA Health System credentialing and privileges.
- Order medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with Virginia prescriptive regulations.
- Request consultation and initiate referrals to specialists when appropriate.
- Evaluate and analyze patient responses to disease process and therapeutic interventions.
- Provide information, education, and support to patients/families regarding disease processes and treatment plans.
- Participate in on‑call responsibilities as appropriate and as determined by department or unit.
- Manage patients in accordance with established UVA Medical Center and UPG policies and procedures.
- Report births, deaths, outbreaks of communicable diseases, and other critical information to required authorities in a timely manner.
- Meet quality standards as determined by the Medical Director and/or UVA Health System.
- Serve on committees, provide clinical education to students, interns, and residents as needed.
- Participate in group, peer, and other review activities as requested.
- Prepare and attend to all reports, claims, and correspondence necessary for professional services.
- Promote the professional practice of the advanced practice group by serving as a clinical resource to nursing, medical, and allied health care practitioners.
- Follow policies and procedures of UPG, UVA Medical Center, CMS, and contracted payers.
- Accurately assign CPT and ICD‑10 codes.
- Update practice through continuing education, conferences, rounds, lectures, journal clubs, and professional conferences.
- Seek professional development and growth opportunities through formal and informal activities, including educational program development and presentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned, commensurate with professional service normally and customarily provided by a licensed independent provider.
Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
Experience: Department and unit specific.
Licensure: License or license‑eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. Must maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) / Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as required, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required.
Physical Demands: Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching overhead, extensive repetitive motion lity to lift or push/pull 50–100 lbs. Exposure to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
