Overview
The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing nursing skills to effectively carry out the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation, and time management. The nurse is responsible for quality communication, teamwork, and leadership/professionalism. The role directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

Role DetailsA Registered Nurse II (RN II) is responsible for the care of the population to whom they are assigned. A RN II is required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit-specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee related to the patient population of their unit, and completion of the Professional Practice Ladder requirements, which include assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, PI Activity and department initiatives, communicating and sharing information with the Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committees.
The portfolio is current and submitted to the Director/Designee annually by March 1. The RN II routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review for the unit, and develops bulletin boards or posters that provide educational information to staff, patients, and family members.
Associates Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) is required. A BSN is preferred.
ExperienceAdvancement to this level requires a minimum of 1872 full-time or part-time hours (936 if holding a BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation.
Certification & LicensureRN license required. Based on the primary state of residency and in accordance with current Virginia and West Virginia Boards of Nursing regulations, the candidate must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the applicable state of work assignment (Virginia and/or West Virginia) with either: a multistate license under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC); or a single-state license valid in the applicable state of work assignment (Virginia or West Virginia only).
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider (HCP) required. New hires must have AHA appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation. Relevant Specialty Certification is preferred.
QualificationsMeets all requirements of a RN I. Competent to provide care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological stages of human growth and development. Competent to provide care using the nursing process. Must have a reliable means of phone communication with the hospital.
