Responsibilities- Patient Relations:
Obtain complete medical history from patient, family, or previous records; explain treatments to patients and families; provide culturally sensitive health education and counseling for patients, parents, and teachers as deemed appropriate. - Staff Relations/Team Building:
Consult with physicians and other members of the health care team; facilitate communication between clinical and non-clinical staff; perform other necessary duties to meet goals of providing primary health care services. - Clinical Duties:
Assess, diagnose, implement treatment, and monitor patients; perform complete physical examinations; order routine and diagnostic lab and x-ray studies based on clinical guidelines and judgment; diagnose acute and chronic illnesses; formulate and monitor patient management plans for pediatric patients under protocols or physician supervision; provide routine preventive physical examinations for children birth to age 18; refer patients requiring hospitalization or specialist care as needed;
render emergency care including CPR, IV fluids, and emergency medications; suture lacerations and address acute orthopedic injuries within scope; emphasize preventive care through education; participate in pediatric on-call rotation and Saturday immediate care clinic. - Administrative Duties:
Review notes per the Chart Review Policy; maintain patient records to standards; obtain physician counter signatures; close patient charts within 72 hours; conduct regular chart reviews and related duties. - Performance Improvement:
Attend medical staff meetings and huddles; participate in Johnson Health Center QI program. - Safety/Infection Control:
Attend OSHA infection control seminars and follow universal precautions; adhere to infection control policies and outbreak response measures. - Other Functions &
Competencies:
Adhere to Corporate Compliance Manual and Johnson Health Center mission; maintain professional licenses and complete required continuing education.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program approved by the State Board of Nursing; ability to relate effectively to patients and providers;
Basic Life Support certification. - Sufficient experience to perform duties; must obtain certification from AAP or NBP or ANCC within 9 months of employment to maintain employment status and compensation.
Fast-paced office; periodic travel to the immediate care clinic for Saturday work and occasional coverage at other locations; physical requirements include lifting up to 25 pounds, speaking, sitting, bending, walking, standing, hearing, stooping, kneeling, repetitive motion; 8–10 hours of computer use; OSHA high-risk position; equal opportunity employer (EOE/ M/F/V/D).
