Job DutiesWork with employers, employer associations, and business groups to advocate on behalf of eligible veterans and individuals and promote the advantages of hiring veterans. Conduct outreach to area employers to assist veterans in gaining employment; discuss services and employer needs; create job placement opportunities; refer eligible clients for consideration; conduct job searches, workshops and seminars; establish job search groups; and monitor, evaluate and report progress.
Facilitate employment, training and placement services for veterans under the applicable State employment service delivery systems. Provide supervision, management, training and support to assigned staff, working to promote the Veterans Program to employers and obtain suitable employment for eligible veterans and individuals.
- Knowledge of career counseling, interviewing, and job placement principles and techniques; community resources, counseling services and social programs; and veteran issues and services.
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, supervisory, problem solving, decision making, customer service, marketing, and computer skills using Microsoft Office Professional or comparable software programs.
- Ability to supervise and manage staff; interact effectively with various parties; conduct research; collect and analyze data; work with employers to identify employment and training opportunities; assess and match client skills to open positions; work with clients in crisis; work independently and as a team member; prepare and manage file documentation; prepare reports and narratives; and apply agency program standards and procedures.
- Must be willing to travel about 75% of the time to attend training, conferences and meetings.
Experience working with agency programs; veteran’s affairs and services; and/or federal or state employment and training programs.
Hiring Preference is given as follows: first, qualified service-connected disabled veterans, as defined by 38 U.S.C. § 4211(3); second, qualified eligible veterans, as defined by 38 U.S.C. § 4211(4); third, qualified eligible persons, as defined by 38 U.S.C. § 4101(5).
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license; some travel within region required.
