Shift Details

Full‑time night shift.

Hours:

11:30 p.m. – 8 a.m. Includes shift differentials for nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job Duties
  • Maintain security of resident population and staff at the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute.
  • Maintain constant and positive interactions with patients on the unit.
  • Ensure unit security presence on each unit and on each shift.
  • Respond to emergency codes on the units.
  • Exercise ultimate control over patient safety on designated unit through therapeutic options and approved de‑escalation techniques.
  • Lead safety culture and initiatives on the unit(s).
  • Assign to specific unit(s) with occasional rotations to other units or areas as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience handling emergency/crisis situations, including physically controlling, confining, and restraining.
  • Current State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
  • Experience working in a psychiatric environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to write safety reports.
Additional Considerations
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of experience.
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, military police, or corrections.
