Overview
The Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation – Adapted Programming is committed to providing a continuum of programs and activities for all. Programs are conducted at multiple locations across the county and are specifically designed for individuals with disabilities.
Adapted General Programs InstructorWe offer multiple options in Adapted Programming, including:
Adapted programs are developed to meet the needs of individuals (children and adults) with disabilities in a structured environment with lower staff to participant ratios. Adapted program offerings vary based on time and location. Program focus varies and includes but is not limited to arts and crafts, dance, sports, fitness, golf, outdoor activities, etc. Students currently enrolled or graduated from Therapeutic Recreation programs preferred.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist preferred.

- 18 years or older
- 6 months pf experience with adapting lessons for individuals with special needs
Starting Pay: $16.66
Adapted Swim/Aquatics InstructorThis position is responsible for instructing individuals with disabilities on water safety, basic and advanced swimming skills in a one-on-one or small group setting. Incumbent is expected to work approximately 3-15 hours per week. A minimum of 6-months prior experience with adapting lessons for individuals with special needs is required. Applicants will need a current Water Safety Instructor and CPR/First Aid Certification for this position and training can be provided by the county.

This position works closely with children with disabilities who would like to participate in the programs we offer. The programs are offered to children ages 3-14 at various sites to include both indoor and outdoor environments. Hours can vary and are dependent upon program enrollment.

NotesNATURE OF WORK This class is part of the Recreation Job Family. Incumbents perform routine work in connection with various recreation programs or activities. Instructors in this classification teach beginner and intermediate specialty level classes. Example: beginner/intermediate ballet, tap, jazz, safety, CPR, first aid, mini camps, environmental education and parent/child classes. May provide daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.
Distinguishing Characteristics This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable code of conduct rules; providing customer services. Work is performed in accordance with set procedures and guidelines, and deviation from those guidelines require approval.

- Carrying out program plans, activities, and lessons. Sets up equipment or materials needed for a class and cleans up after program.
- Provides excellence in customer service by answering questions and providing information to the public.
- Maintains and prepares equipment and facility and maintains related records.
- Enforces program and facility rules; provides emergency care and treatment as required.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
