The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking highly motivated Outdoor Specialty Instructors to join our team! Instructors should have experience, interest, and knowledge in specialties that include:
Archery, Birding, Environmental Education, Kayaking/Canoeing, Hiking, Fishing, Science/STEM, and other nature/outdoor related activities. Instructors should have experience working with youth, teens, adults, and be able to demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm and care for the program and participants.
Outdoor Specialty Instructors are responsible for working independently to plan for activities, leading and instructing educational/recreational programs, and providing safe and quality experiences to those enrolled in the program. Work hours are dependent on enrollment and flexibility is required to include evening and weekend hours.

- Applicant must be 18 years or older.
- High School Diploma / G.E.D. equivalent.
- 6-12 months of nature/outdoor-related programmatic experience.
Starting pay: $16.66/hr
The Department of Parks and Recreation conducts DMV records checks on all employees driving for work purposes and criminal background checks on all hires age 18 years and older. Fingerprinting will be required.
Nature of WorkThis class is part of the Recreation Job Family. Incumbents perform routine work in connection with various recreation programs or activities. Instructors in this classification teach beginner and intermediate specialty level classes, including ballet, tap, jazz, safety, CPR, first aid, mini camps, environmental education and parent/child classes. May provide daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable code of conduct rules and providing customer services. Work is performed in accordance with set procedures and guidelines, and deviation from those guidelines requires approval.

Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium Work: may require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
