Overview

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 7 to 17 at the time of admission with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, VA, Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues.

We also have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or those with self-injurious behavior. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE®-approved and certified facility.

Responsibilities
  • Provides assistance and support to the Director of Nursing in the management of the daily Nursing Care as well as leadership, administrative direction and supervision of staff.
  • Provides nursing supervision and oversight, and training and scheduling of nursing staff.
  • Ensures consistent use of the nursing and residential care process in providing quality care, implements patient safety, and acts as a resource to all nursing and direct care staff.
  • Assists in training resident care staff.
  • Provides assessments, nursing care and evaluation of nursing care.
  • Collaborates with other department personnel in establishing and complying with resident care standards, policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Monitors utilization of resources to provide cost effective care.
  • Provides primary channels of communication for physicians, therapists, caseworkers, DON, facility managers and administrators.
  • Serves as a role model for residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence.
  • Implements Emergency Use of Seclusion and Restraints.
  • Plans and Ensures Quality Resident Care and Treatment.
  • Maintains Documentation Standards.
  • Maintains Cost Efficiency.
  • Participates in Marketing and Community Relations Activities.
  • Staffs Assigned Units.
  • Provides Leadership and Supervision for the Nurses and Direct Care Staff.
  • Interprets Facility and Department Objectives and Policies.
  • Maintains Clean, Safe, Therapeutic Environment.
  • Adheres to Facility and Clinical Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications

Education
:
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing, which confers RN, AD, or Diploma in Nursing.

Licensure/ Certification
:
Licensed by Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse. CPR certification.

Experience
:
Minimum of one year of experience working with children and adolescents in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program. Minimum of three years supervisory experience preferred.

Physical Requirements
:
Must be able to verbally de-escalate and physically restrain when necessary. Ability to perform CPR and First Aid. Ability to handle challenging situations, rotate shifts and programs, maintain confidentiality of resident information, and handle interruptions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to move objects as needed.
