Overview

Sentara RMH Medical Center is a Magnet‑designated hospital located in Harrisonburg, VA. It serves a seven‑county area with a population of 218,000 residents and employs 2,600 locals. The 238‑bed community hospital has been serving the region since 1912 and partners with the Sentara Health System. With 1,800 delivered babies, 60,000 emergency patients, and 21,000 surgical procedures each year, we are looking for registered nurses to join our emergency department team with a primary focus on behavioral health.

Previous acute care experience preferred, but not required.

Duties / Responsibilities

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing competent nursing care as guided by the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN must uphold professional performance standards, including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health.

Transition to Practice / Nurse Residency Program
  • 10‑week TTP program focused on orientation and intentional knowledge support for Medical‑Surgical areas.
  • For new graduates, the TTP program serves as the start of a comprehensive 6‑month residency program.
  • Formal delivery of fundamental nursing concepts and standards via ENO modules blended with in‑person sessions utilizing case studies, gaming, simulation, and skill labs.
  • Exposure to Sentara policies and evidence‑based practice guidelines recommended by the Emergency Nursing Association.
  • Hands‑on experience in the ED alongside a trained nurse preceptor.
  • Opportunity to share experiences and network with peers in a protected environment.
  • Series of virtual professional development sessions with mentoring (optional for experienced nurses).
