Job Duties
  • $7,500 Sign-On Bonus or up to $10,000 Student Loan Repayment may be available for eligible new hires
  • Provides quality professional health care to inmates and assists employees during emergency events.
  • Leads and oversees the direction and supervision of Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants (CNA), Registered Nurses (RN), and Registered Nurse Supervisors (RNCA).
  • Serves as a liaison between Operations at the institution and the Health Services Unit.
  • Responsible for the continuous operation of medical services at the institution.
  • Acts as the designated Health Authority if the facility does not meet the criteria for a Registered Nurse Coordinator (RNC), or there is no RNC/Director of Nursing.
  • Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Must possess and maintain valid unrestricted Virginia RN license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not yet licensed, NCLEX-RN Exam must be scheduled at time of application)
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.
  • Working experience as a supervisor or charge nurse
  • Experience with monitoring staff performance, including the disciplinary process, conducting evaluations, and creation of work duties
  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles and evidence-based practices, to include Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), education/training requirements, and patient safety
  • Knowledge of medication use, actions, and side effects
  • Ability to effectively communicate, direct and delegate to others while maintaining the daily operations of the department
  • Skillful in organizing, planning, and implementing policies and procedures

  • Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment
