Step into a world of cutting-edge care on the Acute Inpatient Oncology Unit at UVA Health. This 28-room unit focuses on Hematology-Oncology, Gynecology-Oncology, Neuro-Oncology, and Benign Hematology, offering opportunities to grow in a culture of mentorship and collaboration.
Responsibilities- Assist the Nurse Manager in administrative duties of the unit, especially during off shifts.
- Provide leadership by collaborating with members of the health care team to maintain standards for professional nursing practice.
- Participate in organizational and unit-based quality improvement activities; provide input on standards of care.
- Provide patient care as needed and maintain clinical competencies, with potential for weekly patient care shift assignments.
- Supervise care by maintaining high visibility to patients, families, and staff.
- Share accountability for unit/department/organizational goals (patient experience, staff engagement, continuous process improvement).
- Manage staff including recruitment, retention, coaching, training, evaluation, and scheduling/delegation of work.
- Under supervision, participate in basic human resources functions.
- Provide managerial support; develop and participate in Quality Improvement Processes; collaborate to improve patient care outcomes.
- Serve as a professional role model, coach, and resource; participate in nursing/hospital committees and shared governance.
- Maintain records pertaining to staff competency and quality audits.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth and adaptability for other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program;
Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
Experience:
At least two years of experience as a registered nurse.
Licensure:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
- 2-3 years of Adult Oncology experience
- ONS Certification
- Leadership experience
Standing for prolonged periods; frequent bending/stooping/travel; climbing stairs or ladders; driving. Requires good communication, auditory and visual skills; ability to lift/push/pull >100 lbs; may be exposed to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, and infectious materials.
